“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18

The history of any group of people revolves heavily on the character and actions of their leadership. And so it is in the body of East Side Baptist Church. With God being in ultimate control in both the individual lives of its members and in the life of the flock as a unit, and God’s appointed shepherd, leading the members in serving both each other and their community, many distinctive events make up the imprint they leave on human lives.

Reverend Charles Cook and his wife, Katherine guided the flock of East Side from 1970 until 1988. During this time, East Side experienced growth in many areas of its ministry. One decision that probably impacted the future path of the church more than any other was to support independent missionaries as the Lord provided the funds. Today, East Side supports over 30 families ministering all over the world. Group mission trips have connected our church family to other members of God’s family in countries thousands of miles away.

In the early 1990’s under the leadership of Reverend Keith and Linda Miller, the church body purchased and remodeled a three bedroom brick home adjacent to the property to serve as a mission home. This home has provided a furnished fully equipped location for missionaries to rest and prepare for their ministries in all corners of the globe. The connections in friendship and love between the mission families God has sent our way and our congregation continues to provide a view of missions that only comes from direct involvement.

With each passing day, the vision of East Side continues to draw from the strength and wisdom of both its past and current leaders. Our history and our present both work together to present His story to a lost and dying world.
